Kapama Game Reserve

Kapama Game Reserve

Kapama Game Reserve, Kruger, South Africa is located 20 minutes from Hoedspruit airport. This means that this area can be reached in an hour or less from Johannesburg International Airport.

Consisting of three lodges and camps scattered throughout a reserve brimming with flora and fauna on the edge of the Kruger National Park. Featured by Kuoni as part of their Kruger and surrounds safari holidays, this is and eco-tourism destination with excellent wildlife viewing.

Home to over 40 different mammals, including the Big Five, Kapama sits nestled in the wilderness, with the Drakensberg Mountains looming in the distance. Sweeping across idyllic landscapes that feature savannah and riverine forest, Kapama has a nostalgic sense of how Africa used to be, with vast herds of buffalo, elephant and antelope found in abundance.

No matter what type of luxury safari you’re looking for, you’ll find the finest Four and Five Star accommodation, from spending the night luxury tents to air-conditioned suites, with a private patio, offering uninterrupted views across the game reserve.

In peaceful Kapama there’re a lodge and two camps and at the end of a long day of traditional bush activities, such as daily game drives, any of them make the perfect retreat.

Kapama Game Reserve – Buffalo Camp

The 5 star Buffalo Camp (10 luxury tents) was constructed from natural wood and stone, the luxurious tented accommodation of the Buffalo Camp has been designed to combine the best of the game reserve’s traditional past with the finest modern amenities. Situated on the riverbank and surrounded by gardens of aloe and euphorbia, each of the ten spacious suites is perched upon stilted wooden decks and the camp is designed to emulate traditional African safari camps of days long past.

Wooden walkways meander between the main lodge area and the suites, meaning that you can see into the canopy of the surrounding trees, and in the dry season, you can see antelope using the river course as they search for new grazing grounds. Each air-conditioned en-suite tent features a coffee machine, safe and well-stocked mini bar, whilst there is an emphasis around the camp on personal and attentive service.

After a day of exploration, sink into a sofa and enjoy the superb views, enjoy a drink from the Buffalo Bar, or take a dip in the elevated rim-flow pool, resting to peer into the forest canopy. The blend of contemporary and traditional carries into the cuisine, with all meals served à la carte. Enjoy breakfast and lunch below a canopy of thatch, and dine out in the rustic boma around a roaring open fire with the acoustic sounds of the roar of lions and the calls of jackals and hyenas echoing distantly in the night.

Kapama Game Reserve – Kapama Southern Camp

The most recent addition to the Kapama Game Reserve family of lodges, is the 5 star Kapama Southern Camp (15 suites) which offers a more intimate experience. Situated to the south of the reserve, with luxurious modern amenities including a pool and bar, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, offering a tranquil safari experience.

Breakfast and lunch can be enjoyed in the open-sided contemporary dining room, with the wine cellar, which houses the fine South Africa estate collection, the focal point of the room. In the evening, with the heat of the sun subsided, dinner can be enjoyed in the outdoor boma, illuminated by the glow of the fires and the multitude of stars.

Kapama Game Reserve – River Lodge

– The 5 Star River Lodge (40 suites) is the main lodge at Kapama, and also the largest game lodge in the Greater Kruger National Park area. With more space comes more amenities, with the on-site spa, pool, numerous lounges, three different dining rooms and a wine cellar all found here.

Each of the 40 air-conditioned suites features a private patio, offering uninterrupted views across the game reserve. If you like to mix a day of adventure with an evening of relaxation, River Lodge has 20 Spa Suites. Carefully positioned in close proximity to the spa, these suites are a little way from the lodge, offering additional privacy. Situated near the Spa Suites, the Family Rooms provide extra space for up to two children. If true luxury is what you’re searching for, the two Royal Suites offer a separate lounge, extended balcony, dual shower and recliner couches.

In keeping with the old-Africa vibe of the rest of the property, evening meals of traditional fare are served in the outdoor Rhino Boma. For breakfast and lunch, the Siyatla is a purpose-built enclosed dining area, offering shade from the African sun. For a little extra romance, dinner can be enjoyed by the dry riverbed in front of the lodge, beneath a canopy of stars.
